Carreg Lafar means 'speaking stone', an echo stone. Active in the Welsh traditional music scene for 20 years, Carreg Lafar’s passionate and lively performances have changed peoples' view of traditional Welsh music. Through a mix of traditional folk and original compositions the band presents a vibrant and contemporary spirit, firmly rooted in the language and living tradition of Welsh song and folk music.
The band formed in Cardiff and release their first CD in 1996 with ten days of performances at the Festival Interceltique de Lorient, culminating in supporting Dan Ar Braz and the ‘Heritage of the Celts’ concert. The band has toured North America five times and performed at major venues and festivals in the UK, France, Spain, Belgium, USA and Canada. Carreg Lafar has made three albums with Sain records, 'Ysbryd y Werin', 'Hyn' and 'Profiad'.
